Mountains for the Brave - Scotland
24th - 30th June 2009

. . . And what better place to stage such a trip, than the gnarly mountains of Glen Coe?

This week's itinerary includes a choice selection of the region's finest adventures with the Aonach Eagach Ridge, (think Crib Goch and triple it), Curved Ridge - a wonderful grade 3 scramble winding its way up the picturesque Buachaille Etive Moor and then the piece de resistance: Tower Ridge! This must be the best route open to the budding mountaineer attempting to climb Ben Nevis, Britain's highest peak. Due to the arduous nature of these routes two rest days are also included that can be used as rock climbing days and/or a shorter day on the hill practising navigation skills.

Note - this week is for those with fitness combined with fearlessness - long days on exposed routes can be expected!

Price per person: £450

Level of Fitness
These will be a demanding weeks on the hill, covering considerable distance and height on three of the days at least. You will require a reasonable level of fitness if you are going to get the most out of these scrambles. Do consider exercising regularly each week to develop your cardiovascular system and stamina. At weekends, go and explore some countryside, maybe take a pack and do some camping. As a rule of thumb, if you can comfortably walk 12 miles - then you should be fine.

Leaders
All grade 2 and 3 routes will be led by a mountaineering instructor, while grade 1 routes may be led by a highly experienced Mountain Leader. All leaders are familiar with the ground upon which they take you, they are qualified first-aiders and are incredibly supportive, understanding and keen for you to get the most from what they have to show you.

I’ve never done this before: what’s a good route to start on?
First of all - if you are scared of heights - maybe you should start by doing our Overcome Your Fear of Heights Course. But if your head is good then the best scrambling holidays to start on would be the Snowdonia or Lake District weeks - if it feels too scary then you can just take the footpath alongside it!

Do I need strong upper body strength?
No you don’t - if you’re working your upper body that much you’re doing something wrong. On all our scrambling weekends and courses we always take time to show you the appropriate technique. But - you do usually need good hill legs.

Do I need any specialist kit for scrambling?
No you don’t – just wear what you would sensibly need for any mountain day. Routes will require for you to have a helmet and harness – though these can be provided by us free of charge.

*Join Will4Adventure's mailing list and automatically get a 15% discount at Cotswold Outdoors.

Where do we stay on these trips?
Once we get your booking we will forward all information including where and when we meet up plus all local accommodation which you will need to book yourself and usually includes camping, the local YHA and all the B&Bs. For Ireland the accommodation is already included in the cost.

I can’t make those dates – can you arrange something to suit me on another date?
Yes we can! Let us know what you’d like to do when. Also let us know how many there are and we’ll do all that we can to meet your needs..
